Kitesurfing has exploded onto the extreme sports scene over the last 7 years. Beaches once solely the domain of windsurfers and surfers have now been adopted by kitesurfers. The site of huge multi coloured kites and riders jumping almost comic-like 20+ft in the air is now a common site on many of the world’s beaches. It’s attraction to many is the mobility it offers (less kit than windsurfing), the ease at which it can be picked up, the amazing air you can get and let's face it – it looks cool!
Cape Town offers some of the best conditions in the world with its South Easter wind blowing between Oct and May.
If you have ever stood on the shoreline and thought that you’d like to give it a go then this is your chance. Kitesurfing can look difficult but it is actually surprisingly easy to pick up if you get the right instruction from the start. It is an extreme sport in every sense and you must learn from accredited instructors to stay safe. We are keen kiters here and have been heavily involved in the industry for the last 5 years so if you want some advice on the best course for you, then either read on, or give one of our team a call.
Kite surfing is one of the most fun water sports you can do. Take a really big kite with some inflated sections, so that the kite floats when you crash it in the water. Get a kitesurfing board, which is rather like a wakeboard (or a snow board with fins) and then add some wind and you can go kite surf. It would be best if you knew how to come back to shore though and that's where we come in!
Windswept is an official IKO centre letting us provide you with insurance and a kite boarder card so you can carry on your training throughout the world. The IKO also runs courses giving you the qualifications to be a recognised instructor, enabling you to teach across the globe.
Windswept Kite boarding conducts kite surfing lessons at The Dolphin Beach Hotel, Blouburg. This has perfect cross-shore winds and lots of space, which is perfect to learn to kite surf. All our instructors are experienced IKO kite surfing instructors with a vast knowledge of kiteing. The course fees cover everything you need for your kite surfing lessons (instruction, insurance, kit hire). All you need to bring is a towel and some sun block.
Kitesurfing Taster
An introduction to kite surfing covering Weather, Safety and Introduction to different equipment, Rigging and safety points all needed to make you a safe and knowledgeable kiter.
Body Drag
Putting all the skills learnt on the beach into practice, a fun filled session being pulled through the water by the kite, experiencing the power and control.
Advanced Body Drag
Perfecting those skills and getting you ready for board handling, one hand piloting, and change of direction, board recovery, and self-launch/land.

Lets Go! How to put a board on, water start, and your first experience sliding across the water. What a Buzz.
Advanced Board riding
Once up and going we can offer a wide variety of lessons to push you and the sport of kiting to the next level. Going upwind, Carve turns, jumping and a multitude of tricks or how to surf waves we have it all on offer. Take advantage of our Knowledge and head to surrounding spots from flat water to point breaks where the worlds best practice. We can arrange down winders of up to 16 km perfect for those wave days.
All are lessons are priced at R495 per person and includes all equipment and IKO certification, each lesson is 2 hours long and it generally takes 5 lessons to get you up on a board.
We hold 2 hour lessons at 10:00, 13:00 and 16:00 everyday weather permitting. There is a maximum of 4 students per lesson.
Whether you are feeling rusty after the off season, want help setting up your new kite system or want to develop your kite surfing skills to the next level, individual coaching is the best way to get you there. Quality time one-on-one with an instructor who can tailor your lesson individually will quickly have you progressing. Be taught by the pros to ride like a pro.
